How to Treat Infected Piercings | Piercings

Hello, I’m Owen Beane, I work at Chameleon
Tattoo in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Chameleonbodyarts.com is the website. Chameleon Tattoo’s been here
more than 10 years, but ten years as such with tattooing, over the last 14 years I’ve
been doing body piercing here in Cambridge and I’ll be talking to you about piercings
today. The way to treat an infected piercing is to go to a piercer so that you can make
an informed decision on how to care for it. A lot of times what you would see that you’d
think is an infection, is not actually an infection it’s like a major irritation or
a routine problem with jewelry size or jewelry quality. Going to a jewelry piercer is important
so they can help you understand what is happening and how best to fix it. A piercing infection,
a bacterial infection, is actually really rare and is overwhelming. So you don’t just
have a little bit of redness, a little bit of soreness, you have excess swelling, excess
pain, really bad, really gross fluid coming out it and nothing is going well, you can’t
really go about your daily business. So you want to go to piercer because if it a routine
problem they can help you fix it and help you understand it and if it is actually an
infection they can send you to a doctor and help you get taken care of that way.

  1. My sister and i got our cartilages done with a gun. Mine is fine but hers is infected. We went to our local piercer and asked for them to have a look at it and they yelled at us for getting it done with a gun. I wish they were more understanding even know it is not reccomend they should have been supportive i wish i lived near Owen haha

  2. I pierced my second lobe about 2weeks ago but i still have in the earring because it hasnt healed yet . Everytime i feel my ears there is a bump around the piercing inside my ears itself . Any advise for me?

  3. I didn't think that there was such a big difference, but there is!!!! Believe me. I got both cartilages pierced at wal-mart with a gun. There was so much force (plus the gun got stuck so she had to pry it off with pliers) that it looked like a hamburger mean/bullet hole in each ear. I would say that the pain of them getting infected is like a broken bone and a large puncture wound… So, had to take both of them out and I am left with a pea sized lump on the exit of my piercing. Not fun. 🙁

  4. Ive had my lip pierced for 3 months and i got some studs off the internet and they irritated it really really badly i did take it out cos my dad told me too but i put it back in the next day because i would be gutted if it healed up so i put it back in and it was fine and the past couple of days its been really really red and theres a clear liquid coming out of it….help?….
